Cold-pressed oil dripping through cotton cloth on a filter plate
Our process

Seven steps. No shortcuts.

From the farm to a sealed tin, here is exactly how every litre of KERNEL & PRESS oil is made.

Seed to tin

Every stage, under one roof.

  1. 01

    Sourcing

Seeds are sourced directly from farms and farmer markets.

  2. 02

    Cleaning & decorticating

Seeds are pre-cleaned, decorticated and filtered to remove dust, stones and other impurities before they reach the press.

  3. 03

    Pressing

An expeller presses the seed mechanically. No external heat or steam is added at any point.

  4. 04

    Two-stage filtration

The oil passes through two filter presses — 24 plates in stage one and 18 in stage two, 42 plates in all — using only fresh cotton cloth and mechanical pumping.

    24 + 18 = 42 plates

  5. 05

    Settling tanks

Filtered oil rests in conical-bottom 5,000-litre tanks so any remaining residue can settle to the bottom.

  6. 06

    Filling

A highly accurate semi-automatic volumetric filling machine measures every pack.

  7. 07

    Packing in tin

Oil is sealed in high-quality tin packaging to lock in freshness and give a longer shelf life — in 1 litre, 5 litre and 15 L tins.

What cold-pressed means for us

Pressure, not heat.

For us, cold-pressed means the seed is pressed mechanically in an expeller with no external heat or steam added during pressing. The oil is then cleaned only by cotton cloth, mechanical pumping and time in the settling tanks.

Coming next

Sorting by size and colour

We plan to add seed sorting by size and colour at a later stage, for an even more consistent seed going into the press.
